……*Yawn*…. "Umm… Guardian Knuckles…."….. "Knuckles?..."... "Chaos?" ….. "Someone?!" Said Tikal. Silence…. She was alone in the Emerald shrine. She had nothing to do… She somehow…. Missed. The accompany of the "guardian" Knuckles, as she like to call him. The guardian was always a little bit more "relaxed" when she was around, so as she… The liked a lot the accompany of each other. Tikal had never been so close to anyone. Not even Chaos. There was a special connection between them, but neither of them was ready for what was coming. *sigh*…. "Knuckles…. Where are you…" Said Tikal to herself as she looked into the rising sun. But suddenly, a shadow could be seen coming from where the sun was rising. "Knuckles!" Tikal screamed to the four winds as she saw the guardian coming. "Knuckles!" She said as she hugged the guardian, making him blush madly. "Umm… H-Hey Tikal… Good to see you´re awake…" Tikal… Looking at the guardian, rapdly let go of the hug, blushing madly… "S-Sorry Knuckles! Err… I mean, Gu-" "-Its ok princess…" Knuckles interrupted. "Huh?" Said the princess, confused. (He always told me to talk to him as "Guardian Knuckles"….. Why would he?...) "Hey, princess…." Knuckles told her, waking her up from her little daydream. "Yes, Guardian?" Said Tikal. "Umm… I need to go to the ruins and I was asking that if… Ummm…" Told Knuckles blushing like a mad. "If you would like to go there… with me…." Tikal blushed lightly at these words. It was the last thing she expected from him. Most of his expeditions he went alone. "Y-Yhea… That would b-be…. Great!" Said Tikal, smiling cutely. "Well… Umm… Get ready. Were leaving  shortly… I'm gonna get food for the trip…" Said Knuckles. "Yes Guardian…. Thanks for the invitation…" Said Tikal "Don't worry about it… Oh, and Princess…" Said Knuckles "Yes, Guardian?" "From now on, you can call me "Knuckles"…. I mean, if you want to… Ok?" Said Knuckles "Then you can call me "Tikal", from now on… Ok?" Replied Tikal on a sexy voice. Knuckles just smirked as he walked out of there, and Tikal thought why did she did that, and most important, why Knuckles did NOT get angry at her…

Knuckles was carrying a stick with a bag tied to it. Where the food and some other stuff was placed. "Sooo, Knuckles…" Said Tikal "Yes?" Answered Knuckles.. "Why did you want me to come here? Is there a spell you need me to say or something?" Tikal said. "Umm… No Tikal… I just wanted you to come…" Tikal blushed as she heard this words. "Oh… Thanks Knuckles…" "Don't make a great deal about it… I'm not always as serious as everyone think…" Tikal just stayed there, looking at Knuckles in the eyes, so as he. Nothing in their minds, but something weird was happening deeper inside both A few seconds passed before Knuckles turned back, blushing as strong as Tikal. "You coming or what?" Said Knuckles. Tikal nodded…. The day was long, Tikal seemed to enjoy it, as for Knuckles, his mind was as shattered as the Master Emerald years ago… Divided into thoughts… Between what's correct… And what´s the best thing to do… For him…. They didn't do anything special… Knuckles kept Tikal into the illusion that they were searching for something… As they explored the ruins, Knuckles was notoriously more careful with Tikal, saving her from some old Echidna traps… They ended up on a lake, in between the mountains… The sun was high up in the sky, and the clouds where a beautiful orange, kind off the one that had Tikal on her fur… "Well, this seems a good place to eat…" Said Knuckles "Wow… It's gorgeous…  How did you know this place?" Said Tikal. Fascinated by the view… "In one exploration… I got injured, and rolled up until here…"Said Knuckles, ashamed of what happened… He thought that something could be interpreted as a weakness.... Tikal knew this, and she never liked the fact that Knuckles was so hard on himself… She had to do something…

"Knuckles…" She said… She embraced him in a tight hug. Making Knuckles blush. "Tikal?" "Knuckles… You don't have to be so hard on yourself…. We all make mistakes… Being a guardian doesn't mean you have to be perfect…" she whispered. "Tikal…" Both hearts rushed into a no-end highway, something was there, something was causing all this troubles, their heads slowly reacted to something they always knew it was there… Slowly, inch by inch, their hearts encountered, and their lips melted away in passion…  Tikal felled on top of Knuckles, for once, neither of them thought before their arms warped on the others body, and their souls melted in the love they felled…   They finally broke up the kiss… "Tikal…" "Knuckles…" Knuckles sharply kissed her one more time… The kiss was filled with sadness…
*bzzzt*…….. *tumph*……… "I'm sorry, Tikal"………………………..... "I love you."

The sun was setting on the horizon, Knuckles was walking to the Emerald shrine with the orange princess in his arms. Tears flooded his eyes as he walked to the altar… Chaos and the light from before were waiting for him. "You sure you want to do this?" Said Chaos "Yes…" *sigh*  Knuckles walked to the altar, and leaved Tikal on top of the Master Emerald. "Chaos…" Said Knuckles. "Yes Knuckles?" "Give this to Tails when you see him…" Said Knuckles as he tossed a small ring back. Chaos cached it. "Ready… For the life chain?" Said the light. "Yes…" Affirmed Knuckles, as he kneeled at the Emerald. A humming appeared and a green aura appeared around Knuckles and Tikal. "Chaos…" Said Knuckles. A weak voice could be heard instead of the hard voice of the Guardian.  "Tell Tikal….."….. "Tell Tikal…. I'm sorry….. Tell her… I love her…"  Chaos was surprised, he was expecting everything but that. "Knuckles…-" "-Just… Do it…" Chaos looked at him… he was there, doing nothing, just looking at her….  "GRHAAAAAA!!!!" Knuckles was suddenly crying in pain, the worst pain he could ever have…. "AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!" "His life… Is now passing… From one body… To another…" Chaos could do no more than look. He knew that Knuckles was a idiot at doing this… But he's was a noble idiot…. "K-K-KKKKHHH!" "How much time is he gonna take?..." Asked Chaos. "Its… Pretty impressive… That he´s alive…" "…….He has always been strong….. But not in that particular aspect…." Knuckles slowly stop screaming, as the green aura that surrounded him started to disappear. His weak breath started to slow down, so as his heart… Soon he had no breath at all, and his heart was in a terminal state…. In the Master Emerald a voice could be heard… "Augh… What?..."Tikal slowly woke up and saw the terrible image….. "Oh god… No…. NO! KNUCKLES!"
"KNUCKLES!" Tikal said, as she dashed to him… "PLEASE! KNUCKLES, WAKE UP!" Tikal said as she hugged the red echidna… "PLEASE!*sniff* I BEG YOU! PLEASE! DON'T DO THIS!" Tikal cried uncontrollably at the loss. "Please…. Knuckles…."  Chaos was looking from a safe distance… This last days have been crazy… He didn't knew what would happened now… The green light was at his side… "He should be dead… By now… I'm sorry… He did…. The right thing…" The green light disappeared… "She should devastated by now…" Chaos said, as he looked at the princess… She lay on top of him, hugging him for not let go.  He was cold…. Every… Single… Part of him… Everything…. Except one part… Deep in his chest… It was slightly warm…. Something was there…. Calming… Warming… Beating… *gasp* "Knuckles! Chaos! Get a doctor, he´s alive!"

"Uhhhggg"…… "What?...."…. "Where…. Where am I?" ….. "You´re in a hospital…. You dumb echidna…"….. "Who? Tika-" Something stroke in him as a familiar feeling in his lips… It was Tikal lips, he gived up in the passion and melted in a feeling that was new for him. They abruptly cut off when suddenly Knuckles started coughing uncontrollably. " Oh… Sorry Knuckles… I shouldn't have exhausted your heart more… You had a severe heart attack… You were dead for more than three minutes… I thought I…" Then, she burst in tears… "I thought I… I had lost you….." *sniff* Tikal said in between sobs. "You have been here more than a week… Unconscious…" Tikal said, wiping her tears. "I'm sorry Tikal…. It's because-" "Don't bother…" Interrupted Tikal. "Chaos and the boys explained me everything…" "….." Tikal got closer to Knuckles, as she gived him a small kiss on the cheek. "Thanks Knuckles…" She said finally. "Huh?" "Thanks for giving me another opportunity…." "…..Thanks…." Tikal hugged Knuckles as he did too… "Oh and… Knuckles…" "Yes?..." ……………………
